  1. ZPD Doo Dah!

Anyone who has studied in the field of education knows about Lev Vygotsky and his famous "Zone of Proximal Development."  Here is my attempt to explain it easily, with a fun parody.

Lyrics

ZPD Doo Dah!

1. ZPD doo dah ZPD Day
That is the zone where new learning holds sway
Plenty of progress heading that way
ZPD doo dah ZPD Day

Lev Vygotsky got the notion
That a teacher should scaffold
When a student’s slightly baffled

2. ZPD doo dah ZPD Day
Give lots of openings for children to play
Social exchanges guide them that way
ZPD doo dah ZPD Day

How can teachers find that level?
Find a basal, a ceiling,
Till you get that “just right” feeling

3. ZPD doo dah ZPD Day
Don’t push or hold them back
A “nudge” is the way
When you’re both learning, it’s time to say
My, we are having a ZPD Day!

words by Kristin Lems, fair use parody of the song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” music by Allie Wrubel
